“Do Something…” BTS – Video 8

We have reached the end of production! Woot!

Eight weekends of filming, nearly 45 hours of raw footage, and a little bit of stress-fuelled gastrointestinal breakdown, but we got it.

In this video, script supervisor Janice smack-talks the whole team, producer Keith thanks everyone by swearing a lot, and director Darren lies around in bed.

Tough shoot!

This concludes our first series of behind the scenes videos. We’ll be taking a short break from production, then returning with a second series, focussing on the Post Production process.

A special thanks to Jenny Wilkinson of Redbud Films, who produced and edited these first 8 videos.

“Do Something…” – Weekend 7

We are nearing the end of our first series of behind the scenes videos for “Do Something With Your Life”.

Weekend 7: Nearing the end of principal photography. Here, we see the cast and crew filming at Yaggers Bar, an office, in a studio built as an office,  a cafe, and the Grouse Mountain Eye of the Wind (the big wind turbine).

One of the biggest challenges of shooting for 8 consecutive weekends is that people start to get tired. Luckily, even when things don’t go the way you’d planned, a sense of humor, a dance party or a fake blow up can really lighten the mood.

Enjoy!

Full Moon Tonight

The Borrowtime team took part in the Bloodshots 2011 48hr Filmmaking Challenge.

Here, we are given 2 days to write, shoot, edit and deliver a 7min (max) movie. We love these.

Our inspiration package consisted of a tape cassette, a pair of scissors, a theme (ours was ‘Handicapped Horror’) and a line of dialogue (“We don’t talk about the accident”)

We stayed up a really long time, drank a fair amount of coffee, and in the end, needed only 47.5 hrs to make this Comedic tribute to 80′s horror movies.

It’s got girls, werewolves, synth music and blood. What’s not to love at Halloween?

We won the prize for best makeup and costume, and the screening of the movie at the Rio theatre was full of laughter.

Enjoy!

Behind the Scenes: “Do Something With Your Life”

Here we discuss shooting in noisy areas, building a backyard wrestling ring, and we meet several of the cast members!

Enjoy!

The Camera and Art Departments

Another behind the scenes episode from the feature, “Do Something With Your Life”.

This time we look at the artistry in the frame, from the cinematography and production design aspects, and some of the work that goes into making an ultra low budget movie.

Director of Photography Jordan Ewan and Production Designer Shazia Mawani take us through some of their processes on set.

These two very talented people did a fantastic job of making the film look good. From lighting the scenes, operating the camera, decorating the sets and pounding pro wrestlers into submission, Jordan and Shaz are very responsible for the look of this film. Very colourful, and very awesome.

More to come next week!
